Year 7 curriculum - September 2012

In September 2012, Year 7 students will follow a topic based curriculum to enable students to link their learning, develop a clear termly focus to their learning and develop transferable skills across the different subjects.

We know that the Primary School model enables students to see how learning in different subjects is linked and that Year 6 students look forward to having lessons in discreet subjects at Secondary School. As a result, we have been working with the IMYC to develop a curriculum which takes these two elements and combines them to create a modern and innovative curriculum, fit for 21st century students.

Year 7 Themes:

Term 1 - Risk
Term 2 - Discovery
Term 3 - Adaptability
Term 4 - Balance
Term 5 - Creativity
Term 6 - Structures

Students will have discreet lessons in the following subject areas:

• English
• Maths
• Science
• Humanities - Geography, History and RE
• Creative Arts - Art, Music and Drama
• Languages - French and German
• ICT
• Technology

The units taught in the majority of these subjects will be based around the termly themes to enable staff, students and parents to see and signpost the learning links between the individual subjects, in order to provide a coherent, meaningful and holistic learning experience.
